Why Attend?

If you attend our women in security recruitment day, you’ll hear from female officers about their journey in security, understand why working in security is different to what many people thing, hear from our customers on why they are committed to supporting us, and engage with other women considering a career in security.

We challenge

At TSS, we’re committed to challenging the makeup of our workforce to attract and develop more women. We create an inclusive and supportive environment for all.

We change

Working in security is different to what you might think. We’re working hard to change perception and help women find opportunities in security with TSS.

We champion

We come together and support each other. Championing women in security through internal programmes, networks and recognition schemes.

Women In Security

Kim’s Story

It’s so important that the make up of our security team really represents the communities we serve. Our people contribute to delivering the best possible visitor experience. As part of our recruitment campaign, we spent time chatting to women to hear their stories…

What did you do before? I was training in the automotive sector.

What’s the best part about your job? The variety and the development opportunities if you want them. I started as a door steward, then progressed and obtained my SIA license, and now I’m a security supervisor on the store floor.

What surprised you most about your role? That I’ve stayed for 12 years! I think it’s because no two days on the high street are ever the same. You have the option to work across different high-profile retail sites and flagship stores. Over the years, I’ve worked in busy city-center department stores, shopping centers, and high-volume retail parks. Every store environment has its own unique rhythm, and it’s great meeting different teams and keeping the public safe while they shop.

What would you say to someone considering a role in security? I’m really glad I joined. It has really allowed me to develop new skills, build confidence, and progress my career. Knowing what career path you want to take can be hard, but if you enjoy interacting with the public and care about keeping shop floor staff and customers safe… give it a go!

Women In Security

Debbie’s Story

It’s so important that the make up of our security team really represents the communities we serve. Our people contribute to delivering the best possible visitor experience. As part of our recruitment campaign, we spent time chatting to women to hear their stories…

What did you do before? I worked in the insurance industry and in customer service.

What’s the best part about your job? The people!

What surprised you most about your role? You wonder whether it might be intimidating, but I’ve never felt at risk. I come from customer service, and retail security is surprisingly similar. I get to interact with shoppers and store staff face-to-face rather than speaking to people over the phone. 99.9% of the time people are wonderful—they’re just out enjoying their day. Occasionally someone might be stressed or frustrated, but if you treat everyone with courtesy and compassion, it always works to diffuse the situation.

What would you say to someone considering a role in security? Do it! It’s one of the best things I ever did! I tell all my friends to join. The store management team is fantastic, and there is such a supportive atmosphere where they really look after you. You get to interact with so many friendly regulars, shoppers, and great colleagues on the retail floor. The security team around me is truly incredible.

Women In Security

Martini’s Story

It’s so important that the make up of our security team really represents the communities we serve. Our people contribute to delivering the best possible visitor experience. As part of our recruitment campaign, we spent time chatting to women to hear their stories…

What did you do before? I worked in hospitality and retail, which I really enjoyed!

What’s the best part about your job? The thrill of the investigation, the strong team atmosphere, and the flexibility around my home life. When I first joined, I could only do a limited set of hours, but as my availability opened up, the role adaptably grew with me. It works brilliantly around my responsibilities at home.

What surprised you most about your role? How crucial sharp customer service skills and keen observation are! Even working undercover on the shop floor, you are constantly reading body language and interacting naturally with people of all backgrounds. People assume store detective work is all about confrontation, but it’s actually about awareness, tact, and subtle communication.

What would you say to someone considering a role in security? Don’t hesitate. There’s such a supportive team atmosphere, and it’s brilliant knowing you play a vital role in protecting retail staff, stopping theft, and ensuring genuine customers feel safe while enjoying their shopping!
